Deciding What Guitar Lessons Would Be Good For You Takes Some Work

May 09th, 2008 | Category: Favorite Guitar Sites

Going back ten even five years ago how we learn guitar has changed a lot. Because of the Online world there are ebooks, guitar learning software, online video lessons, guitar dvds. As a beginner it’s never been a better or possibly a more confusing time to learn. This article will explore what the best alternatives are to learn guitar and what you need to consider before purchasing.

Should I use dvd or Internet video lesson

Knowing what your expectations are is important when choosing a type of guitar lessons. I have used dvd guitar lessons with success but that doesn’t mean they’re best for you. You can learn faster using video lesson online because the content is in smaller snippets. A guitar lesson dvd tend to have more lesson content and are more organized.

If you’re wanting to learn to play songs quickly or just jam with friends I’d suggest online videos. How ever if theory, scales, and reading musicis your goal a dvd course will be more thorough.

Features that are important in guitar lessons

If there was one feature I’d say a guitar lesson product must have it’s a logical lesson plan for you learn. Some products allow you to go free for all and learn what ever you want when ever you want. It’s more logical to follow a predefined order so you learn things in the correct order.

Keep in mind that some courses will provide lesson content you don’t care about. This gets back to the point that you need to know what your learning expectations are. If you don’t want to learn to read music or guitar theory then don’t feel you must buy a guitar lesson set that teaches that.

How would you like to practice?

Watching the videos is the simple part. The practicing is the boring and sometimes difficult part. We all like learning new skills but going over them again and again is a pain in the butt. Consider what form of practice material the guitar lessons have you’re considering taking. Often dvd courses will come with a practice manual, videos, and even online support.

What’s the after sales support like?

Now this is a big one for me. As a beginner you sometimes might not be able to grasp something you’ve learned. Being able to ask someone for more instruction is a great feature and will make the learning process a lot smoother. Look for guitar lessons that offer the ability to have contact with the instructor(s) after purchase.

While price point is important don’t let it be the only determining factor for which product your purchase. Compare each home study guitar course on similar features then consider price. If there is more then one that is similar but there’s a big price difference, let price be a determining factor.
