Continually there are arguments on guitar forums by people just starting out and those that believe they know everything about the instrument about whether a guitar lesson dvd has any value to you as a beginner or not. Personally, I fall on the fence between them. I’m not a seasoned musician but I have taken private lessons, taught myself, and used a guitar lesson video course to get to where I’m at. If you truly want to learn on your own and do it as quickly as possible then using a dvd is an excellent option. One point I want to make is not all of these products are created equal, and they aren’t all created for the same skill level. If you’re a complete beginner then it’s probably worth while looking for a complete course to teach you the basics right up to scales, theory, and reading music. If you already have some playing skills then it might be easier to just look for dvds that teach the specific skills you want to learn.
